10 Questions Families Ask Before Choosing a Memorial Artist
Choosing a memorial is unlike almost any other decision you'll make.
For many families, this is the first time they've ever considered creating memorial artwork from cremated remains. It's natural to have questions about the process, shipping, timing, and what to expect.
Over the years, we've found that many families ask the same thoughtful questions before placing an order. We hope these answers bring a little clarity and peace of mind as you explore what feels right for your loved one.
1. How much cremated remains are needed?
Surprisingly, not very much.
Most memorials require only about 1/8 teaspoon of cremated remains. Larger memorials or larger group orders may require a little more, but we'll always let you know exactly what's needed before your order begins.
Because we use such a small amount, many families are able to create multiple memorials while still preserving the majority of their loved one's cremated remains.
2. Can multiple family members share the same cremated remains?
Absolutely.
Many families choose to create several memorials so siblings, children, grandchildren, or close family members can each have something meaningful.
One family member can send the cremated remains to our studio, and once the memorials are complete, we're happy to ship them directly to multiple family members. A small shipping fee applies for additional delivery addresses.

3. Can pet and human cremated remains be combined?
Yes.
We're honored to create memorials that combine multiple loved ones into a single piece.
That may include:
Two family members
Multiple generations
Beloved pets
Or a combination of both people and pets
Every family's story is unique, and your memorial can reflect that.
4. Can I order before the cremation has taken place?
Yes.
Many families choose to place their order early so one less thing needs to be thought about later.
As soon as your order is placed, we'll send you a cremated remains collection kit containing everything you'll need when you're ready, including collection supplies, instructions, and shipping information.
When the time feels right, simply send the cremated remains to our studio, and we'll begin creating your memorial.
5. How long does the process take?
We generally quote up to six weeks so families have a realistic expectation.
However, whenever possible, David tries to create memorials within the same week they arrive at the studio so they can be returned to your family as quickly as possible.
We understand that these aren't ordinary orders. Every day matters.
6. What if I live in another state?
That isn't a problem at all.
We work with families throughout the United States.
We recommend shipping cremated remains using the USPS cremated remains shipping protocol, which is specifically designed for the safe and respectful transportation of cremated remains. While this is our recommended method, we regularly receive cremated remains shipped in a variety of ways from families across the country. No matter how your package arrives, every shipment is handled with the utmost care, respect, and attention from the moment it reaches our studio.
Once completed, we'll carefully package and ship your finished memorial back to you.
7. Can more memorials be made later?
Yes.
Many families begin with one or two memorials and later decide they'd like additional pieces.
After your order is completed, we hold any remaining cremated remains for 90 days.
During that time, additional memorials can be ordered without sending more cremated remains.
After the holding period, we'll either respectfully scatter the remaining cremated remains at your request or return them to you if you've selected our cremated remains return option.
8. Is every memorial truly handmade?
Yes.
Every memorial is individually handcrafted by David Contreras.
Nothing is mass produced.
Each piece is created one at a time using borosilicate glass before being carefully inspected for quality and craftsmanship prior to shipping.
No two memorials will ever be exactly alike, making each one as unique as the life it represents.
9. What happens if my memorial breaks?
Fortunately, breakage is very uncommon, but we understand accidents can happen.
If your memorial arrives damaged during shipping, please notify us within 48 hours and send photographs of both the damaged piece and the shipping box. This allows us to begin the carrier claim process as quickly as possible.
If a memorial is damaged later through everyday accidents, we're often able to repair it depending on the nature of the break. If a repair is possible, we'll provide a repair estimate before any work begins.
10. How do I know who to trust?
This may be the most important question of all.
Choosing someone to care for your loved one's cremated remains requires an incredible amount of trust.
We never forget that.
Every memorial represents someone's parent, spouse, sibling, child, grandparent, friend, or beloved pet.
David personally creates every memorial with the same care, respect, and attention he would want for his own family.
